Fiber Optic FPV Drones
"The drone arms race is as important as the nuclear arms race"
During my internship as a UAV engineer at QuantumTechFPV, I had the opportunity to work on a critical defense technology challenge: developing drone systems that remain operational even in contested electromagnetic environments. We built a hexacopter that leverages fiber-optic communication, creating a virtually unjammable platform for military applications.
This project pulled me out of my theory zone and helped build intuition on how systems work and the critical nature of soldering, handling components, integrating them and pushed me beyond conventional drone engineering into the intersection of optical communications, systems design, and military-grade reliability engineering. Due to NDA i wont go into the specifics of the drone amd will rather explain the technology.
